Raw Pu'er Tea(Sheng Cha)
Pu’er raw tea (“sheng cha”) is an unfermented, sun-dried tea made from Yunnan’s large-leaf Camellia sinensis. Originating mainly in Yunnan’s Menghai, Yiwu, and Lincang, it comes in:
- Loose leaves (散茶), cakes (饼茶), bricks (砖茶), or bowl shapes (沱茶).
Key types:
- Yiwu Sheng Cha (易武生茶): Soft, floral, honey-sweet.
- Mengt Hai Sheng Cha (勐海生茶): Bold, earthy, with bitter-sweet aftertaste.
- Lincang Sheng Cha (临沧生茶): Fruity, aromatic, crisp.
- Ancient tree tea (古树茶): Complex, mineral-rich.
Flavors range from grassy/vegetal (young) to dried fruit/foresty (aged). Crafted via pan-frying (杀青), rolling (揉捻), and sun-drying (晒干), it’s valued for terroir and aging potential.
