Origin & Producing Area:

Lapsang Souchong originated in Tongmu Village, Xingcun Town, Wuyishan City, Fujian Province. The term “Zhengshan” (literally “authentic mountain”) originally referred to tea produced in the Wuyi Mountain area, and now it is generally defined as the tea
grown within the Tongmu Nature Reserve. Its original producing area covers a 50-square-kilometer region, with geographical coordinates ranging from 117°27’E to 117°51’E in longitude and 27°33’N to 27°54’N in latitude. The boundary of this area is
as follows: east to Malili, west to Guadun, south to Pikeng and Guwangkeng, and north to Tongmuguan.

Production Process:

Lapsang Souchong is divided into two types: smoked and non-smoked. Smoked Lapsang Souchong is made by smoking with pine needles or pine firewood, while non-smoked Lapsang Souchong skips this smoking process. For Lapsang Souchong produced using traditional
techniques, the tea leaves go through multiple processes including withering, fermentation, rolling, and roasting. Among these steps, smoking and roasting are the key processes that create its unique pine smoke aroma.

Quality Characteristics:

In terms of appearance, the tea leaves are plump in shape with a dark, glossy texture. When dry, they emit a unique pine resin aroma and the fragrance of dried longan. After brewing, the tea liquor presents a bright red color and maintains its flavor
well even after multiple infusions—its distinctive characteristics remain noticeable even after 4 to 5 infusions. The taste of the tea is mellow and rich; upon sipping, the fragrance of dried longan lingers in the mouth, accompanied by a honey aroma,
and the pleasant scent persists for a long time. Particularly, its main quality features lie in the mellow and rich pine smoke aroma, the taste of dried longan, and the flavor of candied jujube.
