I. Raw Material & Form
1. Plump Shape
The diameter of dried large-flowered chamomile typically ranges from 1.5 to 2.5 cm (compared to 0.8-1.2 cm for regular chamomile). Its petals are layered, fully expanded and intact, with a round, plump yellow center. During harvesting, only fresh flowers that are half-bloomed to fully bloomed are selected, while unripe small buds are excluded.
2. Advantages in Ingredients
Larger petals and plumper centers mean higher contents of aromatic substances (such as azulene and linalool) and active components (flavonoids and polysaccharides). Per unit weight, the effective ingredient content of large-flowered chamomile is 15%-20% higher than that of small-flowered chamomile, laying a solid foundation for its aroma and efficacy.
II. Sensory Experience: Superior Visual Appeal, Aroma & Taste
1. Visual Appeal: High Aesthetic Value
In its dried form, large-flowered chamomile has a pale creamy yellow color and maintains a complete shape. After brewing (at 80-85℃ for 3-5 minutes), the petals gradually unfold like “blooming little suns” and float in the pale yellow tea liquor. The tea is clear and translucent, with no broken residues or sediment. It is ideal for brewing in a transparent glass, combining “drinking pleasure” with “visual enjoyment”—making it a popular “aesthetic herbal tea” in European and American afternoon tea settings.
2. Aroma: Rich, Natural & Non-Pungent
Thanks to its concentrated aromatic substances, brewed large-flowered chamomile releases a fresh “apple-like sweetness with a hint of herbal aroma,” with a soft, layered scent (regular small-flowered chamomile often has a weaker aroma or tends to carry an “astringent note”). It retains its aroma even after the tea cools down and will not turn pungent if steeped for too long.
3. Taste: Sweet, Mild & Non-Bitter
The tea has a natural subtle sweetness (derived from polysaccharides in the petals) and is free from the astringency or “herbal bitterness” commonly found in regular herbal teas. It suits most palates even without adding honey or sugar. For an extra refreshing twist, a few lemon slices or mint leaves can be added—this also makes it perfect for cold brewing in summer.
