Historical Origin: West Lake Longjing tea can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. Lu Yu’s *The Classic of Tea* records that tea was produced in Tianzhu and Lingyin Temples in Hangzhou. It was designated as tribute tea in the Song Dynasty, with relevant records existing in the Yuan Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, it became one of China’s famous teas. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Qianlong visited Longjing four times and conferred the title of “Imperial Tea” on the 18 tea trees in front of Hugong Temple. In the Republic of China period, it ranked first among China’s famous teas. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was listed as a national diplomatic gift.
Brewing Methods
- Glass Cup Brewing Method: Adopt the top-up method. First, pour an appropriate amount of hot water (around 80℃) into the glass cup, then put the tea leaves into the cup. This allows you to enjoy the sight of the tea leaves unfolding
and floating up and down in the water, which not only preserves the original flavor but also has ornamental value. - Gaiwan (Lidded Bowl) Brewing Method: When brewing with a gaiwan, first warm the bowl, then put in an appropriate amount of tea leaves, pour in hot water (around 80℃), and after steeping for 1-2 minutes, you can pour out the tea soup.
This method facilitates pouring water for brewing, helps the tea soup to infuse, is convenient for drinking, and is also suitable for serving tea to guests.
