Anxi Tieguanyin (Iron Goddess of Mercy) is one of China’s Ten Great Famous Teas. Classified as an Oolong tea (a semi-fermented tea), it originates from Anxi County in Fujian Province, China. It boasts the unique quality of having “green leaves with red edges” and “remaining fragrance after seven infusions.”

Quality Characteristics:The tea leaves are tight, plump, and heavy, often shaped like a dragonfly head. They exhibit a sand-green, oily luster and are covered with fine white downy hairs (pekoe).The dry tea emits a rich, long-lasting fragrance, prominently featuring a natural orchid aroma, often hints of osmanthus or milk. It has excellent infusion durability and produces a mellow, rich liquor.

Brewing Inspection:

Liquor Color: Golden yellow or orange-yellow, clear, bright, and free of turbidity.

Leaves After Infusion (Leaf Base): Thick, tender, and bright, with a silky sheen and distinct red edges (“green leaves with red edges”).

Aroma: A lingering fragrance persists even after multiple infusions, with the orchid scent remaining prominent.

Liquor Color and Taste Profiles:

Fresh Aroma Type: Liquor is golden yellow and bright. Aroma is fresh and uplifting. Taste is refreshing, clean, and sweet.

Rich Aroma Type: Liquor is orange-yellow or amber. Aroma is mellow and profound, often with notes of caramel. Taste is fuller and richer.

“Guanyin Yun” (The Tieguanyin Charm): A unique “throat rhyme” and “sweet aftertaste”. A sweet sensation surges back even 5 minutes after drinking, leaving a lingering sweetness in the mouth and on the palate.
